So much has been said in relation to weight loss. There have been successful myths that have turned into facts. The following are some of the common myths that people tend to believe.

Starving myself is the best way to lose weight.

Most people believe that the fastest way to lose weight is through starvation. Crash diets are unlikely to result in long-term weight loss. In fact, they can sometimes lead to long-term weight gain. They could also be limiting you into eating various foods. For instance, your body will be low on energy and may make you crave certain foods that are rich in sugar and high fat. This can lead to eating those foods and having more calories than you needed. Hence leading to weight gain.

Supplements can help you lose weight

There are a lot of different supplements out there that claim to have instant effects on the journey towards losing weight. But they are never effective when studied.

Many people tend to fall for the marketing and they want the supplements to help them lose weight, so they become more cautious of what they eat. The bottom line is that most supplements are completely useless. The most effective ones can help one lose a few pounds, at most.

Cutting out all snacks can help you lose weight

Snacking isn’t the problem when you’re trying to lose weight, it’s the type of snacking that is the big deal. Many people snack in between meals so as to maintain energy levels. Instead of crisps, chocolate and fries that are rich in fats and sugar go for vegetables, salads and fruit juices.

Drinking water helps you lose weight

Taking in a lot of water doesn’t help in losing weight but it keeps you hydrated and makes one eat fewer snacks. Water is essential in the functionality of our body. Research has found that drinking a lot of water actually helps you gain weight. Water reduces sugar levels and breaks down fats.

"Take care of your body. It is the only place that you stay in."

Fast foods are always fattening

People often think that all fast foods play a major role in weight gaining. Hamburgers, pizzas, fries and chicken are rich in fat. They are usually referred to as unhealthy foods. Not all ‘fast’ foods are bad.

Nowadays, many restaurants offer healthy fast food that is a combination of ‘junk' and healthy foods. For example, hamburgers are now served with a baked potato instead of buns whereas chicken can be served with salad. Therefore, it depends on what it’s being served with.
