Vegetables which are commonly known as veggies are very important in the health of a human being. Nowadays people take a large number of veggies as compared to the former days where people called them "herbs" and indeed they were not wrong, herbs they are.

From potassium, iron, magnesium, dietary fiber, folate, vitamin A to Vitamin C, vegetables are very important and healthy. How you prepare your veggies is very important as it will determine the amount of nutrients that you will be getting from them. You can get fewer nutrients from a veggie when you prepare them using method A and get more nutrients from the same veggies when you prepare them using method B.

According to research, Vitamin C content considerably decreases during the blending and cooking processes of veggies.

The following are some of the best ways of making the most out of your veggies:

Taking your veggies raw

Taking vegetables raw ensures you maintain their natural taste as well as taking all the nutrients that they have which are very important to your body. Eating them raw keeps the vitamins, enzymes and phytochemicals intact.

Steaming your veggies

The more water you can keep your veggies the better the nutrition. Steaming makes your vegetables tender and light and they still maintain their flavor and the nutrients. Steaming is good for all vegetables but best for greens.

Steaming involves bringing water in a pot to a simmer, put a steamer basket on top and put your vegetables on it.

Roasting and baking

This method is so effective as it makes the vegetables release their juices and sugar and hence they remain sweet and retain their flavor as well. This majorly involves cutting your veggies, adding a little oil to them and other spices to them, seasoning them and placing them in an oven.

Grilling veggies

Grilling is the easiest way to prepare your veggies. This method works for almost all veggies and mostly applies to veggies with a large surface so that they may lie on the grills. Also, this method does not require you to cut the veggies before preparing them. Simply put your veggies in a marinade for around 30 minutes and then put them on the grill. When the grill lines are on one side, flip the other side until they are ready. This gives them a smoky flavor and retains all the nutrients.

With these methods, you can now make the most out of your veggies and upgrade from boiling them and deep frying them.
